When is the Home Alone reboot on Disney+?
There’s nothing like a classic holiday movie to get people in the spirit of the season! For many families, 1990’s Home Alone is the go-to Christmas movie to watch. Thanks to Disney+, an updated version of the movie, titled Home Sweet Home Alone, is coming to the streaming service just in time for the holiday season.
Home Sweet Home Alone will arrive exclusively on Disney+ on Nov.12, 2021, just in time for Thanksgiving and the unofficial launch of the holiday season.
What is the new Home Alone reboot about?
The original movie starred Macaulay Culkin as the adorably precocious Kevin McCallister. When his extended family comes to town so that the whole clan can take a trip to Europe for Christmas, thanks to the chaos leading up to their departure, Kevin is left behind. Kevin is forced to fend for himself when two burglars (Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci) target his home.
In the remake, Jojo Rabbit’s Archie Yates stars as Max Mercer, a 10-year-old who is left behind under similar circumstances, only this time his family is headed to Tokyo. The robbers are played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney.
According to Culkin’s Twitter account, he will not be appearing in the remake. “Hey y’all. Just a heads up since I’ve been getting this question a lot today: I am NOT in the new Home Alone reboot. I wish all involved the best of luck though,” he wrote.
Naturally, one of the things that makes the 1990 version so endearing is that there is no internet and no cell phones, which would change the game for a youngster left behind. It will be interesting to see how the movie deals with the advances in technology that made the original movie possible – and plausible.
Home Sweet Home Alone arrives on Disney+ on November 12, 2021.
