In the fourth hour of NCIS season 19, Gibbs and McGee made their way to Alaska in hopes of finally getting the answers needed to bring down a contract killer and the individual funding them.

After jumping through a series of hoops and finally piecing things together with help from the rest of the team working the case back in the headquarters, McGee and Gibbs were able to crack the case, catch their killer and the conglomerate behind them, and stop the conglomerate from building their environment-poisoning copper mine.

With the case solved, it was time for McGee and Gibbs to make their way back home which is when Gibbs dropped a major bomb on McGee: he had no intentions of going home. As the episode came to an end, McGee boarded a plane home while Gibbs remained behind in Alaska.

The episode seemed to serve as the exit storyline for Mark Harmon, but have we really seen the last of Agent Gibbs on NCIS?

Is Leroy Jethro Gibbs leaving NCIS?

While Gibbs has been in some precarious situations over the years which left fans to wonder whether he was leaving the show, Gibbs always managed to make his way back to the NCIS team. Unfortunately, this is not going to be one of those cases as Gibbs has left the team for good this time and will not be returning.

Gibbs’ exit from the series is the result of Mark Harmon choosing to exit the series after 19 seasons of playing Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. While it is possible Harmon could return in the future via a guest appearance or guest arc, he will not remain a series regular in season 19 and seems to be ready to move on after nearly two decades on the show.
