When does Dune come out on HBO Max?

Dune is coming to HBO Max on October 22, 2021. The movie will be released in theaters and on the HBO Max streaming platform as part of Warner Bros’ dual release strategy for all 2021 movies.

Dune stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac and David Dastmalchian. It’s the story of a young man who is destined for greatness. He must undertake a journey to a dangerous planet to save his people, but there is evil at every turn.

Will Dune be available on HBO Max?

The pandemic led Warner Bros. to change their distribution pattern for new movies in 2021. Though initially panned by Hollywood insiders, it hasn’t had nearly the detrimental effect people predicted and in some cases gave the movies a bigger chance at success given the rise of the delta variant and some initial reluctance to return to theaters.

Warner Bros. might not be reaping the box office benefits from their early 2021 movies but they are counting the growth of HBO Max as a huge win. Netting new subscribers and generating more traffic on the streaming platform is a big goal for the company and the 2021 movies are helping to achieve those benchmarks.

Denis Villeneuve was concerned about fans not having the full cinematic experience for the movie, but recent box office trends with movies like Venom and Halloween Kills suggest that the dual release won’t have too great of an impact and could actually help Villeneuve in the long run. HBO Max could be the home of a future sequel if Warner Bros. decides to go that route, so either way it’s a win for the Dune team.

Dune will be available to stream on HBO Max on Oct. 22, 2021. It will be available for 30 days before moving to a theaters-only window before heading to digital and Blu-Ray.
