5. Always Be My Maybe

Original Release Date: May 31st, 2019

Box Office Earnings: N/A. The movie is a Netflix original, so no box office numbers are available.

Critical Acclaim: With a 92% approval rating from critics and an 84% from audiences, it’s safe to say that Always Be My Maybe has already established a place in pop culture history as an unforgettable romantic comedy.

About the Role: Keanu Reeves plays “Keanu Reeves”, a parody of himself. The film version of Reeves briefly dates Sasha (Ali Wong) and spends an ill-fated night out with her and her childhood crush Marcus (Randall Park).

Simply the Best: Keanu Reeves is only in Always Be My Maybe for two scenes, but they’re the most sublime scenes of the entire movie. Clearly having a grand old time, Reeves cranks his celebrity up to eleven and then rips his elevated persona to shreds. Even just his first appearance on screen – a slow stride set to “Sail” by Awolnation – was instantly turned into a meme.

The dude walks great. From there, we’re reminded of his comedic chops as he interacts with each dish at a molecular gastronomy pop up with increasingly hilarious amounts of emotional gravitas. Then, we get to watch him play drinking games. Why is Keanu Reeves so perfect? We’ll never know. Did Randall Park and Ali Wong make this movie just so Keanu could Keanu? The answer to that is a very strong maybe.
