The Chicago Fire 200th episode saw a major change to the cast lineup. Matt Casey left Firehouse 51. Is actor Jesse Spencer gone for good?
Milestone episodes tend to involve big moments. Characters return, characters exit, and life-changing events happen. We just have to look at how Charmed‘s 100th episode saw the end of Cole and Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s 100th episode saw the death of Buffy Summers herself!
From the second episode of Chicago Fire Season 10, there was a hint that we were going to lose a main character. In the fourth episode of the season, Matt wanted to foster Griffin and Ben, but it would mean leaving Chicago. Would he do it?
That’s a decision he made during the 200th episode of the season. We said goodbye to Matt Casey, and now the character has been removed from the key art of the season.
Will Jesse Spencer return to Chicago Fire?
How permanent is this exit? It’s looking pretty permanent. There are no hints that this is just going to be an exit for a few episodes, especially with Casey being removed from the poster.
The move does allow for Stella Kidd’s promotion within Firehouse 51 now. She can become the lieutenant of Truck 81, taking over Casey’s position that he’s left open.
According to our sister site, One Chicago Center, the door is open for Casey’s return at some point. This would likely be something like when Monica Raymund returned as Gabby for an episode. Spencer wanted to leave the series at the end of Season 9 but agreed to return for a handful of episodes this season to give the character a worthy sendoff.
Plus, Casey has made it clear that the move is temporary. He said three years until Ben was in college. If Chicago Fire is still on the air then, Spencer may decide to return to the show.
Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
