Wednesday, Oct. 27 brought us mostly new episodes of regular content. Only FOX had alternate programming due to the World Series. Here are the live TV ratings for the night.

Like on Tuesday, FOX took the top spot for the night in both the audience and the demo. This isn’t that surprising. However, the numbers were lower than the first game of the World Series. This isn’t too surprising or concerning. The numbers will likely go down again on Thursday and then tick back up over the weekend as it gets closer to the final games.

When it comes to the scripted programming, One Chicago won in the audience. Chicago Fire had the best audience of the night, pulling in 6.61 million viewers. This was despite a 10% decrease. Med was next and then PD. Both of these shows saw much smaller decreases, and we’re not worried about any of them as they’re all renewed already.

Survivor is another show we’re not concerned about. The series was down 20% in the demo and 11% in the audience, but it was competing with baseball. It still pulled in the best demo of the whole night, and its audience was still good at 5 million, just behind the three One Chicago shows. It’s getting renewed; it really is that simple.

The Wonder Years up, CSI: Vegas down in the live TV ratings

We’ll continue looking at CBS for now. Tough as Nails seems to have stabilized, but we’ll need to see what next week brings. The show was down 2% in the demo but up almost 2% in the audience. Is this enough to save it? Possibly. Unscripted programming costs less to create, so the live TV ratings get to be lower.

CSI: Vegas probably isn’t getting renewed. It was down another 14% in the demo and 7% in the audience. This show was billed as a limited series anyway, but there was a chance that it was designed to bring up a potential spin-off. There just doesn’t seem to be the audience for another CSI series anymore.

The CW had mostly positive results. Legends of Tomorrow was up 25% in the demo and 3% in the audience. Batwoman was also up 25% in the demo but down 18% in the audience. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about either of these shows. The CW has gotten better at giving shows time to give us closure, and we tend to get a warning when a current show is going to be canceled.

Finally, it’s all about ABC, which had a mixed night. The Goldbergs started it with a 7% drop in the demo but a 6% uptick in the audience. I doubt there’s anything to worry about here.

Likewise, I’m sure The Wonder Years is getting renewed. It and Home Economics got full-season orders for this year, so it’s a good sign that both are going to be renewed. Home Economics is the comedy I’m most concerned about due to the lower live TV ratings, but the 3% uptick in the demo and 15% uptick in the audience are good signs.

The Conners continues to fall. It was down 18% in the demo and 10% in the audience. As long as the show remains financially viable for ABC, it’s going to get renewed. It now just depends on the cost of the cast.

The one ABC show I do think is going to be canceled is A Million Little Things. It returned from a week off with a steady audience and a 7% uptick in the demo. That should be good, but the numbers are the worst of the night outside The CW’s usually low numbers. It’s not holding up against Chicago PD or even CSI: Vegas.
