Batgirl movie: HBO Max release date, cast, and more
More tales from Gotham City are set to arrive with Batgirl, a standalone movie that will premiere exclusively on HBO Max sometime in 2022. The movie is in the early stages of development, but we’ve gathered all of the information that’s out there so far.
Batgirl movie release date on HBO Max
At this point, all we know is that Batgirl is coming to HBO Max in 2022 and production is yet to begin.
If production begins in the next few months, then the movie should arrive on HBO Max in the fall of 2022. This would help HBO Max end 2022 on a strong note in either the third or fourth quarter and that’s always helpful as the year winds down.
Batgirl movie cast
Leslie Grace landed the role of Barbara Gordon in July 2021. J.K. Simmons is set to return as Jim Gordon, and Brendan Fraser joined the cast in October 2021.
Simmons appeared as Jim Gordon in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, putting this new movie firmly in the main Batman timeline; Matt Reeves The Batman is a standalone story with Jeffrey Wright in the role of Jim Gordon.
Christina Hodson is penning the script, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah set to direct. Hodson is no stranger to the DC Universe. She wrote the screenplay for 2020’s Birds of Prey, and she also wrote the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

Grace’s Batgirl will be the first DC movie to feature a standalone female superhero; unlike Wonder Woman, who is one of DC Comics’ “holy trinity” of comic book characters, Barbara Gordon’s alter ego is in the next tier of characters. However, should the movie perform well, it could open the door to many other stories in the DC Universe.
