All American‘s Spence Moore II will be hopping channels this TV season as he goes from playing quarterback Chris Jackson on The CW to a Vietnam War veteran on the ABC dramedy, The Wonder Years.

The series, which is a reboot of the classic television show by the same name, follows the life of Dean Williams, a 12-year old who is coming-of-age in 1968. Like its predecessor, The Wonder Years explores current events through the perspective of a young boy navigating life, love, and family dynamics to the best of his inexperienced ability.

Since the season opener, there’s been an absent figure in the Williams’ household. As the family has struggled through tragedy and heartache, as well as laughed and supported one another, there’s been the reminder that there’s a loved one they hope will come home safely.

With Moore’s casting, it looks like he finally will. Here’s what we know.

Who is Spence Moore II playing on The Wonder Years?

Moore will play Bruce Williams, Dean’s older brother who he admires. He was a star athlete before he was drafted and now he’s on his way home just in time for the holidays. Moore is set to make his debut on Wednesday, Dec. 1 in an episode titled, “Home for Christmas.”

According to TVLine the official description of the episode is as follows:

"Dean can’t wait to spend Christmas with his older brother, Bruce, when he returns home from Vietnam. But adjusting to life back in Montgomery comes with unexpected challenges for Bruce, and the rest of the Williams family rely on their favorite holiday traditions to bring cheer."

Based on the description it looks like The Wonder Years will be tackling the challenges military personnel face once they leave combat to return to the relative peace of their lives at home.

As happy as the Williams family are to be all together again, they’ll need to face the fact that they’ve changed in Bruce’s absence as has he not only due to being in a war zone but possibly also in regards to his worldview by virtue of his own experiences without them.
