Best: Klaus (Klaus)
Klaus was one of the biggest surprises of 2019. He is a more cynical and reserved Santa, but he still only wants the best for the kids near him.
Klaus takes the story of Santa in one of the most realistic ways. This is one movie where I feel as though the Santa in it could have been a real person who just wanted to provide his local town with toys.
This film trades the magical reindeers and the elves for real animals and real people. It attempts to tell the story of Klaus in a way that could have been the beginning of the legend, and even if the Santa in this film is separated from the magic, his legacy is as magical as ever.
This film shows Santa as a secluded old man who just wants to spread cheer to a town perpetual at odds with one another. He recognizes that while the parents might be in quarrels with one another, the children never asked to be.
For Klaus, he was never in it for the glory or any selfish gains. He truly wanted the town to do better even muttering the line “A true selfless act always sparks another” when the postman lets him know the town is doing better.
While this version of Santa might not be the one we know and love, it still is the basis of who Santa is. A selfless and caring person who wants to bring joy to any and every child. In my head canon, this is how the story of Santa began; with one person providing a truly selfless act for all of the children.
