Cristina and Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy

Typically when you begin talking about iconic female friendships from television shows, Meredith and Cristina, the Twisted Sisters, always get tossed into the mix. Both women are strong, intelligent, hilarious, independent, surgeons and they supported through every rank ascension from intern to resident to attending and beyond. This is a friendship that thrived for over a decade on television and even though Cristina isn’t on Grey’s Anatomy anymore, you can still feel her presence, both in the hospital and in the profound effect she has had on Meredith Grey.

it all began with such a simple statement too. Cristina struggled with an ectopic pregnancy from her time dating Burke and wound up getting an abortion, and the only person she felt comfortable enough to share it with was Meredith, who she listed as her emergency contact. The phrase “You’re my person,” has become an iconic line in pop culture. The quote, that moment, and their friendship might just be one of the most popular moments on Grey’s Anatomy across all sixteen seasons. It became the perfect tagline for the duo and complemented the other staples of their friendship such as dancing it out when you’ve had a bad day or stifling your problems by killing a bottle of tequila.

They were always more than just friends, Cristina and Meredith were family. They suffered more tragedies together than any person should have to go through. Whether it be plane crashes, hospital shootings, near-death experiences, impromptu musical episodes, marriages, divorces, or even literal bombs, you could always depend on the Twisted Sisters supporting one another through it all.

Cristina understood the dark and twisty insides of Meredith Grey’s mind better than anyone else. Even Derek knew he would always have to make room in their life for Cristina to fit. I can’t think of a female friendship much more iconic than this one.
