Batwoman season 3, thus far, has been a story focused on family dynamics and the Batman trophies turning ordinary Gotham citizens into supervillains. The plots, however, have converged when it comes to Poison Ivy.

When Bridget Regan was cast as Pamela Isley, the assumption was that we’d see her wrapped in vines and terrorizing the city. But, it seems Batwoman has taken another path.

While we expect to see Regan at some point in season 3, especially given her romantic history with Renee Montoya, it’s actually actress Nicole Kang who will suit up as the mistress of plants.

Kang, who plays Dr. Mary Hamilton, has been pulling double duty as the season inch by inch revealed that the thorny vine that pulled her behind a bush in “Freeze” actually belonged to Ivy. Now that she’s been infected with Ivy’s toxin, she’s transforming into the baddie.

That plot point burst through the narrative in “How Does Your Garden Grow” but it’ll fully come to a head in “Pick Your Poison.”

“Pick Your Poison” is the seventh episode of Batwoman season 3 and its midseason finale. The episode premieres Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

Mary’s transformation, helped along by Alice, will continue to put a strain on Team Bat.

Earlier in the season Alice had told Mary that Ryan and Luke didn’t really see her. As supportive as they’ve been when it comes to her own dreams, they only trust her judgement when they’re in need of help. Otherwise they ignore her medical advice and do what they want.

The two proved Alice’s point when they brushed aside Mary’s concern about Luke’s PTSD and how it would affect him in the field. Heard but not listened to, Mary internalized what Alice said about her not being a valued member of the team.

While Luke and Ryan intend to do better now, that change in mindset is coming on the heels of Mary’s descent into Ivy’s madness. It could be very hard for them to reach her now because of the cracks in their relationship.

If they aren’t able to get through to Mary and help her, we could be going into the back half of the season with the team’s doctor as a threat not only to her own well-being but to Gotham at-large as well. That would be quite the cliffhanger to leave us on until 2022 when Batwoman season 3 returns.
