Hawkeye: When did Clint Barton get hearing aids?

The first two episodes of Hawkeye are now streaming on Disney+ so spoilers ahead if you are not caught up! It’s great to see Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) on our screen again, but there’s something new about him. When did he get hearing aids?

Hawkeye is part of the MCU’s Phase 4 and we’re excited it has finally arrived. Now, we’re not expecting the original Avengers, we know that’s over. But meeting new characters is always fun! Fans are also aware that the Avengers who are left are not who they used to be. They are getting older (with the exception of Thor). But hearing aids, Clint? Well, it actually makes a lot of sense.

Why does Clint Barton have hearing aids in Hawkeye?

Clint answers why he has hearing aids when Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) asks. While he doesn’t give her a straight answer, we see a series of quick clips showing Hawkeye in explosion and other tough situations.

Needless to say, if you are near an explosion enough times (maybe even just one), you’ll need a hearing aid, too! I actually like that this was included in the show. It’s realistic. Unlike most of the Avengers, Clint is only human. A super badass human, sure, but human still. He needs more time to heal from wounds and if something breaks or is damaged (like his hearing) it often can’t be fully repaired.

And as Clint shows, it can come in handy! During the Rogers musical, Clint wanted no part of it and decided to turn his hearing aid off.
