As I am writing this, I am full of turkey, ham, and pumpkin pie, but I am excited to share with you the best new movies to watch in theaters and films available on streaming services that you don’t want to miss.

Typically, we fill ourselves with good food and watch football on Thanksgiving, but one of my favorite new things is to add a movie to the mix this holiday. We have plenty of options to choose from this week, whether from our couch or heading into the movie theater.

For the families, we have our yearly animated movie released on turkey day in Encanto. The movie was co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda that follows a young Colombian girl who is struggling being the only member of her family without magical powers.

Adults have maybe TOO many options to watch this week. In theaters, we see the return of Lady Gaga in House of Gucci, we also have the directorial debut of Halle Berry on Netflix with the MMA film, Bruised and in select theaters, Paul Thomas Anderson’s return to film in Licorice Pizza

We got a story about a bag, a family with magic powers and a woman seeking one last shot at redemption all coming out this weekend.

New movies to watch in theaters this weekend

  • House of Gucci
  • Encanto
  • Licorice Pizza
  • Nationals Champions
  • Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City
  • The Humans

The last time we saw Lady Gaga on the big screen, she got awards love after awards love, including winning her first Oscar. (She should have won more, but I digress) She re-enters the awards race opposite of former Academy Award nominee Adam Drive in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci.

New movies to stream from home this weekend

  • The Humans (Showtime)
  • Bruised (Netflix)
  • The Beatles: Get Back Part One, Two, Three (Disney+)

The Humans is coming out in theaters but also debuting on Showtime at the same time. It is one of those movies that surprised me when I saw it at the Nashville Film Festival. It is a brilliantly written and directed psychological thriller that you don’t want to miss.

We are seeing the directorial debut of Halle Berry where she plays an MMA fighter looking for one last shot. I, for one, am excited to see this because Berry is one heck of an actress, so to see what she is capable of behind the camera makes this an easy can’t miss.
