With the first being released in 1994, the second in 2002, and the final in 2006, the films have actually aged pretty well considering.
Firstly, the concept of the movie is pretty brilliant. Basically, if you end up hurting or killing Santa as Scott Calvin did, then you have to become Santa Claus.
Watching Scott slowly transform into Santa is hilarious as you actually feel bad for him at first. Then as the movie goes on, you start to realize exactly what Scott got himself into and you can’t help but root for him and for things to work out alright.
If the concept isn’t enough to convince you, the films really do bring the magic of Christmas to your living room. In the first film, we watch as Charlie, Scott’s ex-wife, and her new husband learn why Christmas and family are so important. As for the second film, it’s all about the importance of being a good person and finding a person to share your life with. As for the final film, it’s more of a cash grab but it proves just how important Santa is.
No matter, each of the Santa Clause movies is guaranteed to make you laugh and possibly shed a tear. Tim Allen is a brilliant Santa Claus and his comedic timing is on-point in each movie. It’s especially great in the second movie when he’s dealing with some of his unfortunate first dates before he finds his Mrs. Claus. Tim Allen was easily the best pick for Scott Calvin and it shows during the course of the series.
