Gossip Girl (2021) season 2 is on everyone’s minds now that the season 1 finale has dropped on HBO Max.

Since the series premiered in July, it’s owned space in the pop culture mainstream. At first that was because of its status as a revival of a beloved teen drama from the aughts but the current buzz around the show is because of its own merits.

Season 1 found its footing in its back half and, though the show can be a bit of a mess plot wise, it’s an HBO Max original series that the streamer’s audience can’t get enough of watching.

Thankfully, Gossip Girl (2021) was renewed for a season 2 as its freshman season’s end reset the chessboard in quite an unexpected fashion.

Here’s what we know about the show’s second season.

Gossip Girl (2021) season 2 release date predictions

According to J-14, Safran disclosed during a Paleyfest panel that filming on season 2 is set to begin in January 2022 and run through July. As such we won’t be seeing Gossip Girl (2021) return for its sophomore season likely until late summer or fall.

Gossip Girl (2021) season 2 plot

Spoilers ahead of Gossip Girl (2021) season 1

Julien and Gossip Girl are set to clash in an information game of the teen’s own making. She baited the gossipmonger into a revival by giving her details on the private, social, and business lives of everyone she knows.

Not all of it is true but some of it is, and Julien plans to give Gossip Girl the space to drag people’s wrongdoings into the light whilst also making it clear she’ll stop the influencer by any means necessary. It’s a confusing bit of plot that’ll need further explaining in the show’s sophomore season.

As for the romances, only one relationship made it to the finish line of the season and therefore is guaranteed development in season 2. Aki, Audrey, and Max is the Gossip Girl universe’s first triad and the season 1 finale is only the start of their romantic journey.
