Best of 2021: Why Ted Lasso is the best show of the year

FanSided’s Fandoms of the Year crowned Ted Lasso as THE Fandom of the Year and we couldn’t be prouder. Here’s why Ted Lasso is the happiest show on Earth.

Even those who haven’t watched a single episode of Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ know about it. It’s a name you’ll see and continue seeing pop up on your social media for a long while. If you still haven’t watched it, what are you waiting for? The hype is very much real.

Each year, FanSided highlights and ranks the biggest fandoms across a variety of categories. We’ve got celebrities, athletes, shows, movies, and sports. This year, however, there were no specific rankings, we are showing all 100 fandoms some love, but there were 10 fandoms that were chosen for superlative recognition by FanSided’s editorial team, including this year’s Fandom of the Year, which went to Ted Lasso. 

Why Ted Lasso is the best show of the year

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t watch Ted Lasso right away. But when a friend (who had been trying to get me to watch for months) described it as a “warm hug” I got curious. We all need a hug, especially during such a rough year! So I watched it that same weekend.

I’ll warn you, the comedy-drama is a lot of fun and has many LOL moments, but it’s not all happiness and rainbows. As episodes go on, we begin to learn more about these characters and their issues, particularly Ted’s. Season 2 is very emotional and impactful. The season raises important topics such as mental health and we see our main character suffer. I’ll be honest, it hurt. We also see a big betrayal in the end, which left audiences angry (at the character, not the show).

All of these emotions are necessary for the growth of both the characters involved and the story, and it’s all brilliantly told and acted. The cast is simply amazing!
