Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is one of the most highly anticipated films this month.

From the many talented actors and actresses in the film that includes, but is not limited to, Rachel Zegler, Maddie Ziegler, Ariana DeBose, and Rita Morena, from the 1961 classic to the spectacular musical renditions that wonderfully pays homage to the 1957 Stephen Sondheim Broadway original, this film is one that is absolutely a force to be reckoned with and Rotten Tomatoes critics would certainly attest to this.

In hearing both the amazing aspects of the movie as well as all the rave reviews, you may be all set to purchase movie tickets for both yourself and your musical-loving younger ones. But before you do that, we want to tell you all about West Side Story‘s maturity rating so that you’re prepared for its release. Everything to know, below.

West Side Story movie age rating

As of today, the 2021 film, West Side Story, has been given an age rating of PG-13.

Though specific scenes have yet to be detailed, it has been reported that the film has a few depictions of moderate violence, strong language, and frightening scenes. All of which would warrant younger audiences to view the film with an older guardian upon attending.

If watching West Side Story isn’t in the cards for you and your family anymore due to its age rating, then you absolutely must check out the musicals Hairspray, My Fair Lady, and White Christmas on Netflix as they are all great classics and all have a TV-PG/G age rating.

Whether you decide to head on over to the movie theaters to watch all 2 hours and 36 minutes of this Spielberg masterpiece or whether you decide to stay at home and watch Audrey Hepburn look stunning, your weekend is going to be filled with songs you most certainly won’t be able to get out of your head.
