Admit it: You have fantasized about lying to your family about being unable to come for Christmas and just staying home instead. Well, let Four Christmases serve as a cautionary tale for you. It’s not wise to lie during the holidays, because Santa’s making his list and he will deliver some karma. While Four Christmases might be one of the less celebrated Christmas movies, it’s worth watching for the laughs and to wonder why its stars didn’t get along while filming.

Four Christmases stars Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon as couple Brad and Kate, who are less than thrilled at the prospect of visiting their divorced parents for Christmas. Instead, they forgo four Christmases in favor of a vacation to Fiji, which they hide from their families until they happen to be interviewed on the news. Consequently, Brad and Kate must endure the four insane Christmas celebrations with their wild families, and it nearly tears apart their relationship.

The film was released on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 2008, kicking off the Christmas seasons with a bang. Four Christmases earned a whopping worldwide gross of over $163 million, but it didn’t fare as well with critics. Although the film holds a score of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, its original concept and gangbusters cast make this one holiday adventure worth taking. Vaughn and Witherspoon may not have gotten along as well as Vaughn and Reese’s TV sister Jennifer Aniston, but they nonetheless make a formidable comedic force.
