When will Doctor Who return with new episodes in 2022?

Doctor Who has come to an end for another season. There are still more stories to come. 2022 will see three specials, but when will the first air?

The bad news is that we’re not getting a new episode of Doctor Who tonight. Season 13 came to an end last Sunday night, bringing an end to the Flux event. There were some heartbreaking moments, but there were also some shocking turns of events leading to potential storylines for the upcoming specials.

More bad news is that we’re not getting another episode in 2021. There won’t be a Christmas Day special again. We certainly miss the Christmas Day specials. New Year’s Day specials are great, but they’re just not the same.

Doctor Who returns on New Year’s Day 2022

There is some good news about the return of the series, though. We don’t have to wait too long to see the next episode. Doctor Who will bring us another New Year’s Day special. That means we get to watch The Doctor and her mates in action on Jan. 1, 2022.

The episode will air at 8/7c as usual on BBC America. The episode will head to AMC+ afterward. Eventually, we’ll see the season and the specials head to HBO Max.

There are going to be two more specials after this one. Those specials don’t have dates yet, but they are all coming in 2022 and will mark the end of Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor.

What to expect on the New Year’s Day special

The episode will bring back one of the favorite enemies of The Doctor. The Daleks are back, with the title of the special being “Eve of the Daleks.”

Of course, Yaz will return. She’s not done on her journey with The Doctor yet. Dan Lewis will also return after experiencing life both with The Doctor and with Yaz. There’s little to keep him in present-day Liverpool after everything that happened during the Flux event.

Aisling Bea, Adjani Salmon, and Pauline McLynn will also star in the episode. They will all need to work together if they want to protect the people of Earth from the Daleks once more.

We don’t get to know too much about the special, but it is clear that everyone is trapped in a time loop. Who has set up the time loop and why? How can everyone get out of it? We certainly can’t wait, and here’s the promo to tie us over for now.
