Which family movies in 2021 are your favorite? Let’s remember the top 5!

What a great year 2021 was for family movies! From experiences in the movie theaters to streaming a movie from your living room, there have been several substantial family movies released this year. Here, we list our top five.

As a father that spends basically all of his Friday evenings searching for new family movies to watch, 2021 made that task much easier for me. Whether the movie was available instantly to stream at home or in the movie theaters, we seemed to always have a new movie to check out and/or look forward to.

As the year winds down, I can’t help but to look back and examine which movies were the best. There are many great movies that didn’t quite make the top five. Some of the movies that didn’t make the cut, include Vivo (Netflix), Home Sweet Home Alone (Disney+), Peter Rabbit 2, Ghostbusters Afterlife, and Clifford The Big Red Dog. We loved these, but the following five family are my top picks.

What were the best family movies of the year 2021?

Luca

Summer vacation had just gotten underway in mid-June 2021, and the kids and I were looking for a new family movie to watch. We’re going through all of our streaming services and finally the kids decided to check out Disney+. Since it was newly released, Luca was one of the first movies that appeared on the home-screen. As usual, before we watch a newly released movie, we watch the trailer to see if it peaks out interest. After just 15 seconds into the trailer for Luca, they knew instantly they wanted to watch it.

Luca (voiced by Jacob Tremblay) is a fun adventure filled with childhood friendships and giving us that Pixar emotional connection. Essentially, it’s about one young boy/sea monster named Luca that is in the midst of experiencing an incredible getaway summer that is consumed of gelato, pasta and the journey of trying to win a cool scooter in a race. Along the way, Luca shares these adventures with a new best friend Alberto (voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer).

Following its opening weekend, Luca topped all original movies in its first days of streaming. This movie truly brings people together and provides children with some tools to improve their social skills. It’s a feel-good movie that should motivate anyone that if they really want something in life, it is attainable.
