6 great HBO Max shows to watch on New Year’s Eve 2021
Not everyone wants to look back over another pandemic year. Spend New Year’s Eve watching these great HBO Max shows instead.
The end of the year is usually a time to look back over the months past. It’s a chance to get a reminder of the funny and heart-warming things that happened.
It’s been another pandemic year, though. We don’t want reminding of the bad, so there will be a few people wanting to skip over the lookback this year. You may even want to skip the ball drop altogether. So, what are your options?
There are some excellent HBO Max shows to watch. Here are six worth checking out.
6 must-watch HBO Max shows to watch this New Year’s Eve
Gossip Girl
We start with one of the newest dramas on the streamer. The Gossip Girl reboot quickly proved to be the campy drama we needed to watch. It’s over the top and completely unbelievable, but it’s also entertaining. And we can’t deny that having Luke Kirby on our screens is more than worth watching it!
The series follows a new group of students on the Upper East Side. This time we know who Gossip Girl is, but can the teenagers figure it out?
The Nevers
When it comes to fantasy, there’s an HBO Max series that is also on HBO Now. The Nevers is a must-watch, especially if you love the likes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse.
Laura Donnelly stars as Amalia True. She leads a group of women (and a few men) known as “The Touched.” However, Amalia isn’t everything she claims to be, and that’s something we have to figure out over six episodes. The second half of the season will arrive in 2022 so spend New Year’s Eve catching up.
Love Life
Need a comedy? Love Life is perfect, and the second season recently dropped on the streamer. If you missed it, don’t worry! You can catch up on New Year’s Eve.
The first season starred Anna Kendrick as Darby. We follow her through various stages of her life to find love and understand its bigger meanings. The second season follows Marcus Watkins, a book editor who finds himself single when his wife leaves him after catching him in an emotional affair. He needs to figure out what he actually wants in life.
The Flight Attendant
While this series dropped in 2020, you’ll still want to check it out on New Year’s Eve. It’s pure entertainment, and even if you’ve watched it once, you’ll find some great moments in a rewatch that you missed the first time. Knowing the ending, this is also a great way to spot the clues dropped throughout the season.
We do know Season 2 is coming. That’s likely to be in 2022, so now is a good time to play catchup and get a reminder of how storylines ended for each of the characters.
Made for Love
Need a reminder about all the crazy people out there? Made for Love is the series for you. Cristin Milioti is excellent as Hazel, who just wants to get away from her psycho husband who controls absolutely everything that she does. He thinks he’s giving her the perfect world, but it’s far from that when she’s trapped there.
When she gets out, she needs to make amends with her dad. He thinks she just abandoned him and her life for her new husband, but that was far from the truth. It gives the two of them a chance to learn more about each other while managing the crazy ex who keeps popping up.
Aquaman: King of Atlantis
Finally, there are HBO Max shows for the whole family, and Aquaman: King of Atlas is a must. After all, the kids are likely to try to stay up to count down to midnight! There are only three episodes to this miniseries, so it’s going to work for your needs.
The series follows Aquaman now that he is King of Atlantis. He needs to prove that he is the right man for this, and Vulko has the right mission to help him do that. Aquaman heads out to a distant outpost that nobody has heard from in years to find out what’s going on.
