Rumor: Has Alter Ego really been canceled?

The Fall TV 2021 season gave fans many great shows, but it’s no secret that Alter Ego is not an audience favorite. That said, is it true that the FOX competition series is canceled? Is Alter Ego season 2 happening?

When Alter Ego was first announced, I’ll admit I was a bit confused by the whole concept. It just didn’t make a whole lot of sense. The competition show on FOX allows contestants to create an avatar so that this digital projection performs instead of them doing it in-person. The judges see the avatars performing as the contestants sing backstage. Host Rocsi Diaz explains that this gives the vocalist a shield from their anxiety. Supposedly, insecurities disappear thanks to these avatars. But many questions this method, asking if giving contestants a security blanket is the best move. Is it not sending the wrong message to audiences?

It just seems like Alter Ego should encourage confidence instead of avatars, but what do I know? Many feel the same though, and expressed their dislike for the show on social media. This is why many believe the show has been canceled.

Has Alter Ego been canceled by FOX?

While the show has not been canceled, FOX has also not renewed it for a second season. The network may be waiting to see the potential of a second season by seeing if there is a demand for it and if the numbers and ratings will make it worth it. What do you think? If season 2 happens, it could premiere in the late summer or early fall of 2022.
