The Resident Season 5 will not return with new episodes in January 2022

Many TV shows are returning with new episodes this month. That’s not the case for one of our favorite medical dramas. The Resident Season 5 won’t return just yet.

We’ve double-checked the list of arrivals on FOX throughout January 2022, and we are certainly disappointed by the decision. The Resident Season 5 is not among the list of shows returning to the network.

If we’re honest, though, this isn’t surprising. After all, the show made it clear with the promo at the end of the fall finale that we wouldn’t get any episodes in January. We had the return date, and FOX isn’t budging from that.

It’s not clear why we’re not getting episodes in January. It’s possible that the pandemic has something to do with it. We usually do see FOX shows return in January each year.

January 12 update: FOX has announced The Resident season 5 return date is back to being Tuesday, Feb. 1, we’re not sure why the change of mind, but we’re not complaining!

The good news is we do know when The Resident Season 5 will return with new episodes. The promo made it clear that we would see new episodes on Tuesday, Feb. 1. There isn’t too much longer left to wait.

This is an odd date for the show to return. The Winter Olympics will begin the following week, and most networks won’t want to put scripted shows on at the same time as the Olympics. Battling for the live ratings isn’t worth it. Will The Resident return with one episode just to go on a two-week break?

There are a lot of questions we need answered, with most of them surrounding Bell. Conrad has figured out what’s wrong with him, and we want to know that. More importantly, we want to know if he’ll need to retire or whether he’ll be able to operate again. Will this be something that brings his former stepson Jake back to the hospital?

The Resident returns with all-new episodes on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 8/7c on FOX. Catch up on the recent season on Hulu.
