Grey’s Anatomy will not return with new episodes in January 2022

If you were hoping to catch up with your favorite doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, there’s some bad news. Grey’s Anatomy isn’t back this month.

We’ve double-checked the list of releases on ABC in January 2022, and we definitely don’t see Grey’s Anatomy on there. This isn’t surprising, though. In fact, ABC made it clear that we wouldn’t see any new episodes in January 2022.

The promo at the end of the fall finale stated that new episodes would return in February 2022. We even have an exact date for the return. We’ll get the winter premiere on Thursday, Feb. 24.

What to expect on Grey’s Anatomy in February 2022

The show will return with a two-hour crossover event with Station 19. It all comes off the back of the events at the end of the Grey’s winter finale.

We saw Teddy, Hayes, and Hunt all trapped in a car that was hanging off the edge of a cliff. Teddy got out first with the heart they were picking up for Megan’s son. She presumably gets to the hospital with it. Hayes was the next to get out, with Hunt telling him a major secret that could see Hunt’s license removed.

The car went over the edge before Hunt got out. Is there a chance that Hunt survived? Maybe. It’s going to be up to Station 19 to save the day.

Why isn’t Grey’s Anatomy back in January 2022?

What’s with the delay? This one is linked to new shows coming to the network as well as the Winter Olympics. The 2022 Olympics will air in February on NBC and ABC isn’t going to want to risk the ratings. Instead, the limited series will air in January. Look out for Women of the Movement.

There may be a delay, though, due to the pandemic. Filming isn’t returning as initially planned due to the new COVID-19 variant. Right now, the delay won’t affect the show’s return or airing schedule but we know we just don’t know what to expect with COVID-19.
