Where was CW’s Naomi filmed? Is the superhero drama really in Oregon?

NAOMI premiered Tuesday, Jan. 11 on The CW and introduced viewers to Port Oswego, Oregon. This waterfront town is home to the titular character and the local military base.

As seen in the season opener, “Don’t Believe Everything You Think,” Port Oswego has a vibe that resonates with all things cool and is unique in its depiction.

That’s par for the course with many shows on The CW. The longer a series airs, the more its city or town setting becomes its own character.

We’re just getting started with NAOMI but Port Oswego has a youthful hipness to it that suits its lead. Though that’s not surprising considering producer Brian Michael Bendis, co-writer of the Naomi comic book series, is from Portland.

The show is drawing from the Pacific Northwest aesthetic and region, but it’s not actually filmed in the location it’s portraying.

NAOMI filming location

Unlike other DC TV shows currently airing on The CW, NAOMI‘s filming home isn’t Vancouver, Canada. It’s Atlanta, Georgia, surprisingly.

Distractify reports that the show’s co-creator Ava DuVernay spoke on the challenge of turning the southern environment of their filming location into that of the Pacific Northwest. She told the Seattle Times:

"What the leaves look like in Atlanta at a certain time of year as opposed to what they look like in the Pacific Northwest, all of those have been challenges, some of which we’ve addressed through visual effects. But most of the time, it’s just a stellar production design and locations team and camera department that work really hard to make some magic."

Costuming has also played a part in working to bring to life a convincing imagining of this made up town with plaid and layers being key components in the costume design for the characters.

Port Oswego isn’t a real town but it does bear the name of Lake Oswego which is located in a Portland suburb that’s why the name may sound familiar to some viewers.

New episodes of NAOMI air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW after Superman & Lois. Next day streaming is available on cwtv.com and The CW app.
