New movies in theaters and streaming this weekend: January 14
By Ricky Valero
After back-to-back somewhat lackluster theater releases, we have our first BIG release this week and I am excited. Today, we share the best new movies to watch in theaters and films available on streaming services that you don’t want to miss.
I don’t know about you, but I am SUPER excited about the latest installment of the Scream franchise. Although, I will admit the name ‘Scream‘ for the film is somewhat annoying because it will confuse people for years to come. However, twenty-five years after the original murders, Ghostface is back and the OG squad has to take he/she down again. I am so excited to see my guy Deputy Dewey back in action.
While that is the only major release of the week, the streaming platforms have a couple of films that are coming out for us to watch as well. Starting off with Brazen dropping on Netflix, the brand new thriller based on the novel of the same name starring Alyssa Milano and Sex Appeal a teen comedy about a girl who finds out there is to sex and love than mechanics.
New movies to watch in theaters this weekend
- Scream 5
- Belle
- Shattered (Limited Release)
- Italian Studies (Limited Release)
Shattered is a film that I want to highlight this week because I thought it was a well-made psychological thriller with a kick-ass performance from Lilly Krug. The film also stars Shameless’s Cameron Monaghan, John Malkovich and Frank Grillo. The film is also available on VOD.
New movies to stream from home this weekend
- The Tragedy of Macbeth (Apple TV+)
- Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (Amazon Prime Video)
- Brazen (Netflix)
- Sex Appeal (Hulu)
I am so excited for the rest of the world to experience The Tragedy of Macbeth. A beautiful film from top to bottom led by an Oscar-worthy performance from Denzel Washington, Macbeth captivates you from start to finish. I am not a huge Shakespeare person, so the fact this movie not only blew me away, it is one of my favorite films of last year.
What will you be watching this weekend? Will you enjoy a movie in theaters or streaming?
