Demon Slayer season 2 episode 6 recap
We kick off episode 6 with Daki and Tanjiro still battling to the death.
With the strength of his sword and his basic Sun Breathing skills, Tanjiro is able to somehow keep up with this Upper-Rank demon, that is until Daki retrieved her remaining fabrics causing her to not only change in appearance but grow much, much stronger. As Tanjiro contemplates how to defeat this new Daki without his fellow demon slayers, a resident of the village angrily walks out, complaining that the two are making far too much noise and because of this, aren’t welcomed in the Entertainment District. This sudden interruption annoys an already-annoyed Daki even more, prompting her to not only lay waste to the villager’s hand but take the lives of many innocent residents.
Rightfully peeved about the unnecessary death of these citizens, Tanjiro’s eyes become tainted with blood, but just before we see him unleash his frustration on Daki, we receive a cut-scene involving Kyojuro Rengoku’s father Shinjuro writing a letter to Tanjiro. The letter read:
"Dear Kamado, I know that I wronged you. Thank you for shedding tears over Kyojuro. I hear that you’ve also been exchanging letters with Senjuro for the past four months. He seems to be in a much better place now. I’m ashamed that our first meeting went the way it did. At a time when my own incompetence had let me shattered, things went from bad to worse when my beloved wife succumbed to illness. Since then, I’ve done nothing but drink myself into a stupor and wallow. There’s no bigger fool than me. Unlike me, Kyokuro was a fine son. Even after I abandoned him as his instructor, he trained by reading the Guide to Flame Breathing, and became a Hashira. Even though there were only three volumes. He must have had more of Ruka’s—of his mother’s blood. Both Kyojuro and Senjuro are fine boys. And Kamado, you have an even more amazing power. I hear that those who are chosen to wield Sun Breathing are born with the same red mark on their forehead that you have. And so I’m sure that you…"
Tanjiro denounces Shinjuro’s claims, stating that he wasn’t chosen to be a Sun wielder. Even still, he knows that he has to do whatever it takes to bring down people like Daki who wouldn’t think twice about killing humans. With his rising anger, Tanjiro demands to know why Daki, a former human, is amused by slaying humans. His words trigger a memory of a mysterious man (bearing the same scar as Tanjiro) who asked the same thing. The thoughts are revealed to belong to Muzan, allowing us to assume this may be a man who holds the key to Tanjiro’s power.
The episode then cuts to Tengen Uzui and company, hilariously trying to figure what to do next now that the belt fabrics returned to Daki. He, Inosuke, and a slumbering Zenitsu decide to continue locating Tanjiro who is fighting the true villain. Unfortunately, they are still rather far from him and time is running out before Daki (as well as Tanjiro) is filled to the brim with murderous intent.
Tanjiro empowers himself to decapitate Daki for good, but before he does so, he hears the words of his younger sibling who begs him to breathe. Heeding the advice, Tanjiro begins to cough profusely, leaving him vulnerable. But just as things look grim for him, Nezuko comes flying in with a sweet kick that chops off half of Daki’s head. Irritated like never before, Daki remembers that Nezuko is the one Muzan asked her to dispose of and so, she sets out to do so by slicing Nezuko’s limbs. Daki assumes she’s weak and unable to regenerate, but when Nezuko manages to do so, she’s floored.
Approaching the end of the episode, we see Nezuko looking much different in design. Vines across her body, a horn protruding out of her forehead, and veins everywhere; a change that is most likely a result of her scary-when-angry personality described by one of her and Tanjiro’s younger brothers. In the flashback, the slain boy recalls his elder siblings’ strength. However, he fears that they don’t have any regard for their own safety being that they always put others first. As Tanjiro lay gasping for air still and as Nezuko seems to be going to a point of no return in this fight, it seems that his fear is coming to pass.
What awaits Daki now that Nezuko has undergone this scary transformation? Will Tengen ever catch up to Tanjiro? When will Zenitisu wake up? All this and more will be answered tomorrow.
