Degrassi release date, cast, synopsis and more

Who’s ready to head back to Degrassi? The franchise is making its return with a new installment for this generation coming of age. For over 40 years, Degrassi has been a window into the lives of every day teens and young adults learning about themselves and the world around them.

The franchise is most known for Degrassi: The Next Generation but it’s been around since 1979. HBO Max is hoping to strike gold with its own installment produced by WildBrain, the company that owns the franchise. Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen are developing the new series and will serve as executive producers.

Reboots and revivals have become par for the course in this age of television, however, the Degrassi franchise is no stranger to revamping to cater to the needs of each new generation. But don’t worry, this series won’t be a teen drama that skews older and likely won’t be rated TV-MA considering it’s slated to air at a later date on Cartoon Network.

The series is set to premiere in 2023. We’ll keep you posted on a specific release date. Filming starts summer 2022 in Toronto.

Degrassi cast

A cast has yet to be announced for the series. There’s been no word on if any stars from previous shows in the franchise will be a part of this latest addition.

Degrassi synopsis

An official synopsis has yet to be released. However, when Degrassi was announced, a short overview was included. Here’s what the series will be about per Variety:

"Set in Toronto, the new series explores a group of teenagers and school faculty living in the shadow of events that both bind them together and tear them apart. The show travels deep into the hearts and homes of diverse, complicated characters, as they struggle to find their new normal, reaching for hope, redemption and love."
