4400 has been lighting up screens since the show made its debut on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021. The CW series, which is a reboot of the USA Network’s The 4400, is the channel’s sole sci-fi entry of the season that isn’t also a superhero drama a part of the network’s DC TV roster.

The show tells the story of 4,400 people who mysteriously appear in Detroit after they had just as mysteriously vanished years prior. For some of the members of this group it’s only been a few years but for others its been decades.

The last thing these time-traveling wonders remember vary, but they are all out of time and must deal with the sad consequences of whatever force snatched them out of their timelines. However, reconnecting with their families or dealing with the loss of those they loved aren’t their only problems.

The U.S. government is trying to come up with an answer to why this happened but the need for order is infringing on the 4400s freedom. While they’re being told that they’re being held for their own good and safety, they’re clearly being detained and held against their will.

Refusing to keep their heads down and do as they’re told, a small group forms an alliance. Together they’ll fight for their rights, push for changes in the way the government is treating them, and navigate their changing circumstances which includes powers they didn’t have prior to being shuffled forward in time.

4400 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. Read the full synopsis for the series below as well as information on the cast and how to watch the series online.

4400 synopsis

The series synopsis via The CW:

"Over the last century at least, four thousand four hundred people who were overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized vanished without a trace off the face of the planet. Last night, inexplicably, they were all returned in an instant to Detroit, MI, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them.As the government races to understand the phenomenon, analyze the potential threat, and contain the story, an empathetic social worker (Joseph David-Jones, “Arrow”) and hardened community corrections officer (Ireon Roach, “Candyman”) are among the civil servants called upon to deal with the uncanny refugees. The new partners clash in ideology and approach, but gradually find they have more in common than they thought as they become familiar with those under their care…These unwilling time travelers, collectively the 4400, must grapple with their impossible new reality, the fact that they’ve been returned with a few…upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were brought back now for a reason they’re only beginning to understand."
