New movies in theaters and streaming this weekend: January 21

We have reached the weekend, and sadly, we don’t have a lot of new movies coming out. Below, we share the best new movies to watch in theaters and films available on streaming services that you don’t want to miss.

Look, let’s be honest, studios and streaming platforms knew that Netflix was dropping Ozark this week and they didn’t want to take on the challenge. I don’t blame them, because I will binge that show for seven consecutive hours. However, some new stuff is dropping this week to be excited about.

With a light movie schedule this week, don’t forget you can catch up on some of the more recent movies at the box office including the latest installment of Scream 5 and the Jessica Chastain-led action film, The 355.

• Redeeming Love

Gravitas Ventures is dipping into the royal side of things with The King’s Daughter, starring Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan plays King Louis XIV, who seeks to live forever, leading to him capturing a mermaid.

Look, I said this week is light and yes, that plot is a real movie and I am just as confused as you are about it.

New movies to stream from home this weekend

• Munich: The Edge of War, Netflix
• The Royal Treatment, Netflix
• Moses Storm: Trash White, HBO Max

I spoke a little about my love for Netflix’s rom-com. They have found a way to find scripts that are good and aren’t Hallmark-y or Lifetime-y and that is what sets these films apart. And oddly enough, we have The King’s Daughter and The Royal Treatment both in the same week. HOWEVER, this movie is real.

Isabella (Laura Marano) runs her own salon and stumbles across an opportunity to do the hair for the royal wedding. See, this already sounds better. Does a normal Jane fall in love with a prince? COME ON, GUYS!!!! I can’t wait.
