What is Murderville on Netflix about?
When you hear the title “Murderville“, you might first think of a horror series. But it may surprise you to learn that Murderville is actually both a crime mystery AND a comedy improv series — and that’s what makes it so fun! Here’s what we know about the show so far.
The main character is Senior Detective Terry Seattle who works in the Homicide Division and works to solve a different murder case every day. But, Detective Seattle’s partner will be a new person in each episode (a celebrity guest star).
Here’s where it gets fun — the celebrity guest will not be given a script for the episode. They won’t know what’s happening and will need to improvise their way through the story. The guest star will work with the other cast members to gather clues and track down suspects, but it will be up to the guest star alone to solve the case and identify the killer.
There will be 6 episodes in all, and the series is based on a similar series in the UK called Murder in Successville. We imagine that each episode will have an interesting blend of crime sleuthing and improv comedy (maybe not quite improv comedy, but definitely lots of improv that creates comedy). If you love watching both of these genres, Murderville is definitely the show for you!
Who is in the Murderville cast?
The main cast of Murderville includes Will Arnett as Detective Terry Seattle, Haneefah Wood as Chief Rhonda Jenkins-Seattle, Lilan Bowden as Medical Examiner Amber Kang, and Phillip Smithey as Detective Darren ‘Daz’ Phillips.
The celebrity guest stars (who will not be given a script) are Annie Murphy, Conan O’Brien, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, Marshawn Lynch, and Sharon Stone. These actors will need to rely on the information and context clues they get from the other characters about how to solve the mystery and identify the killer.
Watch the Murderville trailer
One of the best ways to understand what this show will be like is to watch the latest trailer. With one person in each episode being completely clueless about what’s going on, there’s bound to be some great laughs.
All 6 episodes of Murderville will be available to stream on Netflix starting Feb. 3, 2022.
