What did Owen tell Hayes on Grey’s Anatomy?
The Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 winter premiere brought us answers about Owen’s fate. What exactly did he tell Hayes before surgery?
After taking a two-month break, Grey’s Anatomy returned with a new episode. It sees the start of a character’s exit, but it’s not the one we were concerned about. Owen Hunt survived the crash, but it lead to questions about what Owen had said to Hayes.
Based on Owen’s answer, Hayes has decided he can’t stay at Grey Sloan Memorial anymore. He handed in his resignation, setting up Hayes’s permanent exit.
What was it about the conversation that made Hayes leave? What exactly did Owen tell the doctor?
Owen admitted to helping patients die on Grey’s Anatomy
During the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 winter fall, Owen told Hayes to get out of the car. He refused to let Hayes leave his sons orphans. At least Teddy had already got out of the car to ensure Leo and Allison would have one parent.
Before Hayes got out, Owen told him that he’d helped a terminally ill soldier die. This soldier isn’t the only one. There are others who will come to Owen for help.
The initial soldier wasn’t too much of a concern. Owen clarified to Hayes that the first soldier was from Seattle. There is a Right to Die act in Washington. However, Owen also shared that some of the soldiers will come from out of state—more importantly from states that don’t have a Right to Die Act.
This was the moment Hayes decided he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t break the law. By knowing about it, he could lose his license, and he wouldn’t risk jail for the sake of Owen’s promise. He wouldn’t be able to do that for his sons.
