6. Best CW shows: Dynasty

If there’s one thing The CW loves, it’s a reboot. And if there’s one thing television viewers tire of quickly, it’s reboots. But no one should be tired of Dynasty. Once again, The CW took on a huge task with a series like Dynasty, which was one of the biggest primetime soaps on television in the ‘80s. Naturally, fans of the original went in with low expectations.

Whether the new take on Dynasty exceeded or underwhelmed those expectations is no one’s business but your own, but the reboot has personally far surpassed the usual trappings of a “reboot.” Five — that’s right, five — seasons into its run, the series is still making a name for itself apart from the famous series that it honors.

Dynasty follows the business and personal affairs of the Carrington family in Atlanta, led by the headstrong billionaire Blake (Grant Show) and his determined daughter Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies). Featuring an ensemble cast that’s infamous for casting shakeups galore, you won’t find soapy drama with a sense of humor this good anywhere else. Seriously!

It’s unlikely that, years from now, Dynasty will be name-checked as a leading example of The CW’s programming from this current era. Bottom line, it’s now an outlier on the network when, once upon a time, it would have been the most popular girl on the lineup. However, you can’t deny that it’s defining this era in its own right, and that’s just so rich.
