Sandra Oh in a horror movie? Yes, please! Take my money now! If you are as excited as we are about the supernatural horror, Umma, from director Iris K. Shim, you’ve come to the right place! Below, we chat what Umma is about, what to expect, and who else stars in the movie.

The supernatural horror also sees Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWha Alana Lee, and Tom Yi, in starring roles. Iris K. Shim is the writer and director of the movie, and Sam Raimi serves as one of the producers. Needless to say, this is a great cast and crew here! We love the vibe of this upcoming horror and the fact that it stars one of our favorite talents, Sandra Oh.

What is the movie Umma about?

Umma follows Amanda, a Korean immigrant who lives with her daughter in a rural farm. They don’t have modern technology and spend their days raising bees, it’s how Amanda prefers it. All in all, it’s a quiet but peaceful life, until Amanda receives the cremated ashes of her estranged mother. This is when Amanda begins to have strange experiences and realizes there’s a spirit haunting her, and they want more than to give her a scare, they want her body.

Here’s the trailer to the movie:

On the official poster for the movie, the line “a mother’s love never dies” is printed, which hints that the evil spirit haunting Amanda could be her own mother. This makes even more sense when you remember that the two did not have the best relationship. “Umma” is also mom in Korean.

Umma will be in theaters Friday, March 18. At the time of this writing, no streaming release has been announced, it seems like this will be a movie theater exclusive. But if anything changes, we’ll keep you posted!
