House of the Dragon release date confirmed: When will the show air on HBO?

Get ready for one hot summer. HBO has announced the premiere date for House of the Dragon, and it’s the month rumored for a while now.

Just as parts of Ontario, Canada face more ice rain, we get hope of a hot summer. It’s going to be much hotter than initially expected thanks to the release of a highly anticipated series.

It’s all about the Game of Thrones prequel. It doesn’t matter what you think about the ending to the main series, House of the Dragon is something to look forward to. It’s set hundreds of years before the Night King moved his way south and past the wall, focused on the Targaryen reign.

House of the Dragon release date on HBO

When can we start watching the series? HBO has announced that House of the Dragon will arrive on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, Aug. 21. Episodes are likely to air on the channel at 9 p.m. ET/PT as Game of Thrones did, but we’ll be waiting for that confirmation closer to the time. We usually see the episodes drop earlier on the apps.

This isn’t all that surprising. Just recently, there had been a few rumors that the series would arrive in August. Now it’s confirmed.

According to TVLine, this is a weekly release, just like most content on HBO still. That’s not surprising as the weekly release format continues to be a success for a lot of shows. While fans love the Netflix-style binge-watch, there’s no doubt that The Boys, Euphoria, and Yellowjackets have all benefitted from being released weekly.

The prequel series follows the Targaryen reign 200 years before Daenerys became the final Targaryen…okay, not the final when Jon’s lineage was finally confirmed, but she thought she was the last for a long time. We’ll get to see the highs and lows of the dynasty, and there will be a lot of dragons.
