Cassie is now living in LA and is two days away from being a year sober (wohoo!). She’s happily dating her photographer boyfriend Marco as well as working those international flights. The overseas trips come in handy as she’s now an asset for the CIA. So you know, not much is happening in her world.
Did you notice some of the graphics in the main title sequence are new? Let’s jump into the episode to see what else is new in the life of Cassie Bowden!
The Flight Attendant season 2 episode 1 recap
Cassie’s side gig
We meet Cassie’s CIA handler, Benjamin in the season 2 premiere. For her next assignment in Berlin, her handler reminds Cassie to stay onsite at the hotel and just watch her mark. She’s not supposed to follow him, but Cassie being Cassie of course does the opposite. We get a day in the life of the CIA asset as she follows her mark, Will. From a window across the street, she sees him sleeping with a blonde with a very visible back tattoo that matches Cassie’s. This rightfully spooks her.
When they’re done, the blonde gives Will a suitcase and he hands over an envelope. There’s a team of people who seem to be listening in on their conversation from the floor above who almost spot Cassie. The flight attendant follows Will back to his car which suddenly explodes. That’s when Cassie makes it back into her Mind World but this time she has some new guests to keep her company.
The Mind World
Cassie is back in her Mind World, and this time she has to face herself. A couple of versions of herself to be exact. We see the young teenage Cassie we met in season 1 flashbacks, as well as the party drunk dressed in the gold dress she was wearing in the series’ very first episode during her night out with Alex Sokolov before he was killed.
Cassie is tempted to drink even in this other reality, and we see it again on her flight home. This is something she’s going to continue struggling with. Her other self says to her that she’s telling everyone life is great and she’s making better choices, but she’s not buying it. Of course, these are Cassie’s internalized feelings about herself that she doesn’t want to admit.
Annie and Max
Cassie’s ever so faithful friend Annie and her lovely significant other Max are visiting Cassie in LA since Annie has a job interview. The former lawyer has been on a year suspension due to the choices she made in the first season. But there’s some good news – Annie and Max are engaged! The poor guy is downplaying it, but I have faith Annie will come to fully accept it in due time. I love this couple so I’m so excited!
When Cassie was still in Berlin, she finds that her baggage is missing and the receptionists tell her she already checked out. Of course she didn’t which raises her suspicions even more that someone was indeed trying to impersonate her. The flight finds her missing bag. As she goes through items that are definitely not hers, she finds a wig with blood on it. That’s when she tells her friends about her theory – someone is pretending to be her. And, end scene. I love how all the characters played this last scene, it was hilarious!
Things to keep an eye on
Megan is hiding out and sends Cassie a key in the mail with a penguin keychain. What does it mean?
On the flight home, Grace tells Cassie her ears were ringing from the explosion too. Could she be the impersonator?
The CIA director is making me suspicious. She was giving me weird vibes. Anyone else?
Who was that husband and wife who bumped into Cassie on purpose? They used some kind of scanning device so it looks like they’re following her.
The Flight Attendant returns next week on April 28 with two new episodes!
