Last Sunday night on American Idol, the Top 10 became the Top 7 when Disney Night saw the elimination of three more artists. Following the elimination, we expected to see the Top 7 take the stage on Monday night and see yet another artist or two go home.

Instead, ABC aired a special commemorating the show’s 20th season with a night filled with performances from Idol alums who made their way back to the stage to reflect on their journey and team up for some fun duets.

After Monday’s special, the competition finally resumed tonight as the Top 7 took to the stage to perform songs dedicated to their mother/mother figures as well as hits made viral on TikTik. To help them in their way during the Mother’s Day episode, was Grammy-winner will.i.am, who helped mentor the contestants before they took to the stage in hopes of making it into the next round of the competition.

Who went home on American Idol tonight? (May 8, 2022)

Unfortunately, tonight brought the end of Christian Guardino and Platinum Ticket contestant Jay Copeland’s American Idol journeys as the pair were eliminated at the end of the night.

With the competition nearing its end, it’s going to be hard to see any contestants go as all of the remaining contestants are insanely talented and deserving of the title of American Idol. Now that the competition has been widdled down to the Top 5 only a few weeks remain before a new champ is crowned and it’s truly anyone’s game.

American Idol airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, and episodes are available to stream on Hulu the next day they air.
