So You Think You Can Dance is back! After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, fans of this long running dance competition series can fall in love with a new crop of dancers and root for their success. SYTYCD season 17 is set to endear its audience with heartwarming stories as well as  underdog triumphs. But, most of all, it’ll enchant and mesmerize.

The longevity of So You Think You Can Dance stems from the beauty and innovation of its programming from each season’s cast of dancers to the choreographers that bring their art to the competition. Dancers, regardless of style and expertise, are given the opportunity to challenge themselves, learn, and showcase their artistry in the hopes of winning.

Expect this summer on Fox to be magical and inspiring with SYTYCD season 17 airing through out the hottest season and bringing the house down with the routines on display.

Here’s everything to know about the upcoming new season!

SYTYCD season 17 premiere date

Season 17 premieres Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox after The Masked Singer finale. The first episode kicks off the audition portion of the series which will see the judges selecting dancers to move forward in the competition from tryouts in Los Angeles, New York, and New Orleans.

Who are the SYTYCD season 17 judges?

Fans tuning into season 17 will get a surprise once the show airs. Nigel Lythgoe, the lone So You Think You Can Dance judge to be on the panel every season, won’t be a part of season 17. Deadline reports that Lythgoe tweeted that he wasn’t asked to be on the judges panel.

It was a sad announcement for the creator of the dance competition series and fans alike. Choreographer Mary Murphy won’t return as well. While Murphy hasn’t been a part of every season of So You Think You Can Dance, she’s spent the most time on the judges panel, second only to Lythgoe in appearances, and was a judge in season 16.

Who’s the new guard of judges? Well, they’re not newcomers to the dance world, that’s for sure. So You Think You Can Dance alum Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Glee‘s Matthew Morrison, and internet sensation and Dancing with the Stars season 30 runner-up JoJo Siwa are this season’s judges.

Will Cat Deely return to host SYTYCD season 17?

Yes, though fans of So You Think You Dance will be without Lythgoe and Murphy as judges this season, Cat Deely will return. She has been the host of the series since season 2 which aired in 2006.
