Cristo Fernández has partnered up with 7-Eleven to help bring gamers new ways to step up their game. In an interview with the Ted Lasso star, we learned more about this partnership, chatted Formula 1, and the star also teased details about the hit Apple TV+ series.

The pandemic had most of us sitting at home, and many, like Cristo Fernández, used this time to play video games and master their skills, which is what 7-Eleven is helping gamers do! Fernández and Toni Breidinger, the first female Arab NASCAR driver and model, present to fans a star-studded Rocket League match and a chance to win the fan-designed custom Model 711 car.

Fernández shared details about this in an interview with Hidden Remote, and we were also able to chat Ted Lasso and asked Fernández about his favorite Formula 1 driver.

Cristo Fernández interview: Formula 1, Ted Lasso, and 7-Eleven snacks

*The interview below has been edited for length and clarifty

Hidden Remote: Hi Cristo! Let’s kick things right off. Tell me about your partnership with 7-Eleven.

Cristo Fernández: I’m very excited about this partnership because 7-Eleven has always been the go-to convenience store for me and my friends back in Mexico. It’s a place where I would always go and get things we forgot for the BBQ. And now, with partnership with Rocket League…I love video games, especially in recent years with the pandemic, so Rocket League is a video game that combines both cars and football. I’m into cars and football…football has been my life [laughs]. It’s a video game I really enjoy playing.

HR: Now, since we’re talking about racing, I have to ask — are you a Formula 1 fan?

Fernández: YES! Yeah, I am. I support Checo Pérez [Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez], representing Guadalajara and my people in Mexico.

HR: Awesome! We’re huge Checo fans here, too. What are your favorite 7-Eleven snacks you gotta have while binge-watching your favorite TV series?

Fernández: I’m really into Cheetos, the cheese ones. They remind me of my grandma, I loved sharing them with her. I also love Doritos and Snickers bars.

HR: 7-Eleven stores just have it all! Tell me about Ted Lasso season 3! It’s one of our favorite shows here at Hidden Remote and we’re super excited about the upcoming season. Are you still filming?

Fernández: Yeah, we are filming at the moment. We’ve been filming for the last two months and it’s going well! I’m happy to be back with the cast and crew, all my friends, and getting to hang out with them again. Thankfully, right now, it’s not like last year with COVID so things are much better. I’m happy with the script, I think fans will really love season 3.

HR: One of the things I love about Ted Lasso is the diversity and representation, which is what makes your character so important to the Latino audience. We see ourselves on-screen in a series that, I think, would not typically be the case. In addition to representation, what do you think makes Dani Rojas so lovable?

Fernández: I’d like to address the representation, first, I think that’s one of the ways the show stands out. It’s important to include people who have their own accent, and in this multicultural war we’re living in diversity is very important. Now, regarding my character, I think what makes him stand out is his [Dani’s] positive energy, enthusiasm for life, and the passion he has. In this case, we’re surrounded by bad news and it’s just refreshing to surround yourself with people who are nice and kind and positive. [Dani is full of hope] and I think hope is very important nowadays.

HR: I love that about Dani Rojas. Watching Ted Lasso takes us out of reality for a moment and fans can watch and enjoy all the characters and story. In what ways do you relate to Dani?

Fernández: That passion for football, that’s literally me. I played back in Mexico professionally, so that’s literally Dani. I think Dani is my full layer version. I also like to think that I learned kindness and positivity thanks to Dani, but yeah, mostly the passion for football and endless enthusiasm.

HR: You shared your favorite 7-Eleven snacks, but what would Dani Rojas get from 7-Eleven stores? What would his favorite snacks be?

Fernández: Haha! He [Dani Rojas] would love chicharrones and I think he would love quesadillas, just lots of cheese. Oh, and a Slurpee! And cookies and cream ice cream [laughs].

HR: Chicharrones are an underrated treat for sure!

Fernández: Yes, they are! They’re also low in calories so I think Dani would love them.

HR: I have to say, I love your TikTok and watched the one with you and Eugenio Derbez, who is a Mexican legend and icon, I grew up watching him because my parents would love his shows. How was it working with him on the video?

Fernández: It was honestly a dream come true to be able to just meet him. I grew up in Mexico watching his comedies, I love his work. We met in person, I got in touch with him and he loves Ted Lasso. He has an Apple TV+ series, too, Acapulco, so we thought about putting that video together. Hopefully, there will be a moment where we can develop something together, that would be really cool.

HR: That would be amazing! I’d love to see it, fingers crossed!
