Where was Stranger Things season 4 filmed?

We’re not in Hawkins anymore! (At least, not only in Hawkins). Stranger Things season 4 introduces brand new locations for many of the characters in the series, including sunny California, snowy Russia, and other suburban locations in and around Hawkins, Indiana. But where was Stranger Things season 4 filmed?

Though most of the production takes place in Atlanta, Georgia (where the first three seasons of Stranger Things were primarily filmed), not all filming took place in Georgia for this season — it didn’t even all take place in the United States.

Some of the Russian scenes were actually filmed in Vilnius, Lithuania. Specifically, they filmed in the former century-old Lukiškes Prison, among other locations in Lithuania during the winter season. HBO’s Chernobyl also filmed in this city.

Even though Eleven and the Byers family move to California in Stranger Things season 4, no filming actually happened in the state. Instead, filming took place in New Mexico. The Lenora Hills High School is actually Eldorado High School, and filming also took place at the Roller King in Albuquerque. More scenes were shot in Los Lunas, New Mexico and its surrounding areas.

Where did filming take place for Stranger Things season 4?

Many Stranger Things fans know that a majority of the production for each season takes place in Atlanta, Georgia — either in nearby suburban towns or on sound stages at EUE Screen Gems Studios. Even if you see an exterior shot (like the outside of a house) that really exists near Atlanta, all of the interior filming almost always happens in a soundstage.
