Everything to know about HBO Max’s Velma (cast and more!)

As part of HBO Max’s effort to add more adult animation titles to its line-up, the streaming service called upon none other than Mindy Kaling, the award-winning, multi-talented woman that brought us the likes of The Sex Lives of College Girls and Never Have I Ever, to help make their biggest dreams a reality.

And thus, the series Velma was born!

That’s right. The upcoming animated series inspired by the beloved cartoon show Scooby-Doo is heading your way soon, and if you thought you knew everything there was to know about the quirky nerd, just wait until you hear how Mindy Kaling reimagined the beloved intelligent character.

Velma series cast

Deadline reports Charlie Grandy, Howard Klein, and Teen Titans‘ Sam Register will work alongside Kailing as executive producers for the project. The media outlet also reports the animation studio Warner Bros. Animation will be the home where talented creators work their magic.

Aside from Kaling, who will be voicing the lead role of Velma, it is not yet known which other celebrities will lend their voices to this project. However, with this crew of talented people, we’re sure it’s going to be an amazing lineup.

Velma series synopsis

Earlier this week, audiences were able to get a first look at the series and were pleasantly surprised to see that the show is doing a stellar job in its inclusivity. For the first time, Velma will be of South Asian descent, an artistic choice Kaling is sticking by no matter what naysayers say.

“Hopefully you noticed my Velma is South Asian,” Kaling stated. “If people freak out about that, I don’t care.”

What our new-and-improved Velma and the rest of the characters will be doing is unknown since the official synopsis is not yet confirmed. Even still, we believe fans can expect this character to use her intellect and wit to uncover several mysteries no one else can solve.
