Young Sheldon season 5 finale: Is Young Sheldon cancelled?
The Young Sheldon season 5 finale just aired on CBS. So the first question fans of The Big Bang Theory prequel are asking is whether there’s more story to come for the Cooper family.
In the season’s last episode, “A Clogged Pore, a Little Spanish and The Future,” George quits his job as high school football coach when he learns he’s going to lose it the following school year. After losing her job at the church because Georgie got a girl pregnant out of wedlock, Mary finds another job at the bowling alley with none other than Brenda.
Georgie and Meemaw travel to Mexico to buy cigarettes for a cheaper price so they can sell them in their gambling room. After all the eldest Cooper sibling needs some extra cash with a baby on the way. But they get arrested at the border! And Sheldon is worried about entering teenagehood, but we get a nice Big Bang Theory easter egg at the end of the episode.
For me, the last episode of the season felt a little underwhelming. With all the foreshadowing and storylines they introduced, I honestly thought more was going to happen. It didn’t feel like a finale. Yes, a lot happened. But it wasn’t the major cliffhanger we were expecting.
So will we be getting more Young Sheldon to answer the questions we’re all asking?
Is Young Sheldon cancelled?
The good news is the storylines we are waiting for should be coming. Young Sheldon has already been renewed for not one, but two seasons! So the Cooper family and all the drama that still needs to unfold will be told in Young Sheldon season 6 and season 7. We’ve known about the show’s renewal status since Jan. 2022.
Right now the biggest questions are whether something happens between George and Brenda, how his inevitable cheating and death come about, and how teen dad Georgie is going to handle his new role and how that’s going to further affect his family.
I do hope we start getting into the George storylines a bit quicker. It feels like the series has been teasing us with them for a while. Honestly with the rate the kids are growing, they’re going to need to jump in time a bit. They’re already starting to look too old for the ages they’re playing. George has become a character many care about and is more endearing than his description in The Big Bang Theory. But it’s time to see the unfortunate storylines we all know are coming.
