Cancellation season is rough for many fans. Once shows starting heading toward finale, and they’re not already greenlit for renewal, viewers understandably begin to get nervous. It’s a nail biting time of the year. And, unfortunately, even series with a few seasons under their belt get the ax if they’re not performing at the numbers a network wants. A prime example is Magnum P.I.

The CBS drama ran for four seasons before being cancelled in May 2022, just short of a week after its finale aired. Like many shows currently on television, the series was a reboot of a popular program. The original from the ’80s starred Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum; the new series was led by Jay Hernandez in the same role.

Of course, as soon as a show is cancelled, fans begin clamoring for it to be picked up on another network. Or, if no networks will take it, then hopefully a streamer will do so. This, however, isn’t an easy feat and the stars often have to be perfectly aligned for it to happen. Not every show can be Lucifer or Manifest, two shows picked up by Netflix after they were cancelled.

Not to mention, the producers have to be shopping the series around. If there’s no word on that then the chances of the show being saved is basically zero. What’s Magnum P.I.‘s status now that it’s been cancelled? Here’s what we know!

Will Magnum P.I. be saved?

All hope isn’t lost for the series to be picked up elsewhere. TVline reports that the show is being shopped around. Here’s the full quote:

"I cannot tell you that another station will “save” Magnum — though I am now hearing that lead producer Universal TV is trying to shop it around…."

The likelihood of Magnum P.I. being picked up by one of the big five networks is low, however, Universal TV falls under the NBCUniversal banner. If NBC passes, its streaming home, Peacock could be an option. Also, the series is a joint venture with CBS Studios, hence Magnum P.I.‘s standing as a CBS drama and its availability to stream on Paramount+. The latter streamer would be the best option for the show if it makes the hop from broadcast to streaming.

We’ll keep you posted on more news concerning the show as it comes in. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote!
