Scream

I wanted to make this list as diverse as possible regarding genres. I was looking through the best movies on my Letterboxd and stumbled across the OG of OG horror films in Scream.

I had recently gone through the entire series before the new one came out and couldn’t believe that over 25+ years later, this film stands the test of time. It truly redefined this type of horror and sparked so many new and fresh takes in this space.

Scream follows Sidney, who, a year after the murder of her mother, begins to be terrorized by a new killer. Ghostface begins to target her and her friends by playing a deadly game of cat and mouse. The film stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard.

Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich do not get enough credit for being the single best duo in any horror film. These two worked so well together and the final 15-20 minutes of this film are nothing short of perfection. These two shared chemistry made you love to hate (and even hate to love) Stuart and Billy.

We also saw the birth of the Horror queen in Sidney Prescott, who Neve Campbell played. I loved rewatching this franchise and witnessing the growth of this character and the development of Campbell in the role.

Scream is that Horror movie that changed the game forever and it was the perfect blend of comedy and humor that set us up for generations to enjoy.
