Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 saw a fight for the Residency Program at Grey Sloan Memorial. Would it all end with happiness for the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial?

The 400th episode of Grey’s Anatomy did not disappoint. There was a patient storyline that had us in tears just like some of the earlier episodes of the series. We got plenty of flashbacks of the earlier seasons and Ellis continually taunting Meredith throughout. We also got some closure on one major storyline.

It was all about the Residency Program. It had been under attack for a while now, and it was finally time to see what the final decision would be.

Could Bailey save the Residency Program in Grey’s Anatomy?

There was a lot riding against Bailey during the episode. The first was the lack of blood. Bailey set up a blood drive, but it wasn’t enough. There was a bank of blood on the way, but that ended up with most of it destroyed in an accident. Some blood did get to the hospital, but it wasn’t enough or in time to save a patient.

That patient was Meredith’s. Meredith chose to do a risky surgery, and Jamarah, the head of the board making the decision about the Residency Program, was not impressed. The surgery wasn’t necessary and many others had argued against it, but Meredith went ahead with it anyway.

Jamarah also learned that Meredith was planning on moving. This would mean another attending down, and by the end of the episode, two more attendings left. It didn’t look good for the program, but would Bailey be able to pull a Hail Mary?

In the end, Jamarah described the Grey Sloan Memorial team a dysfunctional family and shared that it was time for a change. That change was the end of the Residency Program at the hospital. With that, Levi, Helm, and all the other residents had to pack up their things. They would need to move onto other programs around the country, and it’s not clear where they are all going just yet. All we know is that there was no saving the Residency Program at Grey Sloan Memorial.
