Shadow and Bone season 2: All the details to know about the new season

Shadow and Bone already had a big fanbase due to the book series by author Leigh Bardugo. When the first season dropped on Netflix, it became a hit for the streaming service! Whether you were a book fan or show-first viewer, the fantasy series captured our attention.

In the final episode of season 1, Nina and Matthias safely reach a city but find Fedyor in their path. To save his life, Nina says Matthias is a slave trader so he’s arrested instead of being captured. But when he wakes up imprisoned, the witch hunter thinks Nina has betrayed him.

Elsewhere, the ship crosses the Fold to start its journey. Though Alina uses her powers to shield it and protect everyone from Volcra,  Kirigan expands the Fold towards West Ravka, overwhelming it and destroying a growing rebellion there. Kaz and the others find that Mal has snuck on board.

Zoya sees what Kirigan has done to West Ravka and turns against him. When Mal confronts Kirigan, we think the Darkling has been taken by Volcra. Zoya, Alina and Mal, and the Crows, leave the Fold, being the only survivors. But by the end of the episode, we see a wounded Kirigan emerge from the Fold.

We’ve been eager for any news about the upcoming season. We don’t have all the details yet, but we’ve gotten some to tide us over until the arrival of the second season. Here’s everything we know!

Shadow and Bone season 2 release date updates

Unfortunately we don’t know when Netflix will release the show’s second season yet. There will be a total of eight episodes once again.

At this year’s Netflix Geeked Week, the streamer shared that filming has officially wrapped on the second season! Check out the video announcement on the show’s Twitter account. Filming started in January, so it took five months to complete.

Though we still have six months to go in 2022, it’s hard to say whether we’ll see the second season this year. There is a chance for season 2 to make its debut at the end of the year. But with post-production, we could be looking at a 2023 release date.

Shadow and Bone season 2 synopsis

We also don’t have an official season 2 synopsis yet. But since the show is based on a wonderful series of books, we have somewhat of an idea of what we can expect. The second novel is Siege and Storm. And since the Crows are back in the sophomore season, it’s very likely the show pulled storylines from the Six of Crows book as well.

In Siege and Storm, Alina and Mal try to make a life while hiding her identity as the Sun Summoner. The Darkling emerges from hiding and is once again trying to take control of Ravka. In Six of Crows, Kaz and his gang join Matthias and Nina to break into a prison in the witch hunter’s native country of Fjerda.

• Patrick Gibson as Nikolai Lantsov, a prince who recruits a crew of mercenaries and soldiers to help Ravka. He becomes an ally of Alina’s in the second book.
• Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar Kir-Bataar, a Grisha Heartrender and twin sister of Tolya.
• Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Bataar, a mercenary in Nikolai’s crew.
• Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendriks, a son of a wealthy merchant but joins the Crows as a chemist and demolition expert.

Expected to return:

• Sujaya Dasgupta as Zoya Nazyalensky
• Zoë Wanamaker as Baghra
