Writer/director/star Cooper Raiff’s debut S#!&house was an indie darling that was beloved upon release. Raiff aimed for the same kind of acclaim with his sophomore feature Cha Cha Real Smooth which premiered at Sundance – where it won the Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic Feature – this year and, similar to his previous feature, quickly took the world by storm.
Cha Cha Real Smooth follows Andrew (Raiff), an early 20s recent college graduate, as he tries to figure out his life in the “real world.” He soon meets Domino (Dakota Johnson) and Lola (Vanessa Burghardt), and each of their lives is forever changed.
Not only did the film win the Audience Award at Sundance, but it also picked up rave reviews and still holds a “certified fresh” rating at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. This multi-generational coming-of-age film is sure to win over audiences of all ages. The biggest question is, can you watch it on streaming, or is it only in theaters?
Can you watch Cha Cha Real Smooth online?
The answer to this question is a resounding YES! Apple purchased this film out of Sundance and thus made it an Apple TV+ streaming movie first and foremost, meaning on June 17 anyone with a subscription to AppleTV+ will be able to view this movie.
Last year another Sundance smash hit and overall crowd-pleaser CODA went on to be a massive success both commercially and when it came to the awards season. Apple was able to get CODA into movie theaters around the country, and even if it didn’t have a wide release, it was released nonetheless.
If you are a theater purist, I would say the odds of being able to still witness this movie on the big screen are pretty high. Depending on how the film does upon release and throughout the year will dictate it, but Apple’s willingness to dive into the theatrical experience with their streaming films seems like it would be a good sign for this film.
