Lifetime‘s Ripped from the Headlines summer slate kicks off this weekend! The first film to premiere, in a set of four unconnected movies, is Dirty Little Secret starring Melissa Joan Hart and Lizzie Boys. It’s subject matter is quite difficult for anyone who’s lived with a hoarding disorder or someone who has one.

Dirty Little Secret centers on Lucy. She’s 17 years old and has guarded her personal life from anyone who’s tried to get closer to her. The reason? Her family secret. Lucy’s mother, Joanna, is a hoarder. For as long as Lucy can remember, every inch of their house has been taken up by the items her mother refuses to get rid of and no one knows about this but their family.

Joanna is a respected nurse in the outside world. Her meticulousness is a facet of her personality that helps her succeed at her job. But, at home, her inability to let go and demands to leave things where she’s put them and how she’s put them has Lucy counting down the days until she can escape to college.

However, when tragedy strikes, Lucy has to decide whether or not she’s going to keep allowing her mother to force them to live like this. It’s unsustainable and the obsessive grip she has on the house, on their personal lives due to her hoarding, is too much. Something has to give and it may just be this secret.

Dirty Little Secret Lifetime release date

The movie premieres Saturday, June 11 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. Encores will air Sunday, June 12 at 12:01 a.m. and 2 p.m., so if you miss Dirty Little Secret‘s debut, you’ll have two more opportunities to watch the movie over the weekend.
