The Toy Story movies are beloved by kids and adults alike. And it’s always exciting when there’s more added to the franchise so we can get even more story! Lightyear serves as a spin-off to the Toy Story films and takes us into the origin story of everyone’s favorite space ranger, Buzz.

This time around Chris Evans lends his voice to the titular role, instead of actor Tim Allen who’s ben voicing Buzz in all four of the Toy Story films. Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, James Brolin, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. also star in supporting roles.

The film was co-written and directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman. The new movie, produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, will be released in cinemas on June 17.

So what can we expect to see in the upcoming sci-fi action adventure?

What is Lightyear about?

Lightyear takes us back to infinity and beyond to the beginnings of Buzz Lightyear, the legendary space ranger superhero. He’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As he tries to find a way back home through space and time, matters get complicated and their mission is threatened with the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

The film will be released in 3D and IMAX formats. This is the first Pixar project to be released in IMAX. Lightyear isn’t currently streaming on anywhere, including Disney+, but it is very likely that’s where the film’s streaming home will be at a later date.
