Summer is the perfect time to get caught up on some of your favorite movies or discover new ones. It’s especially true if you’re planning on streaming some on Disney+.

While Disney+ is mostly known for its various Disney properties, there are plenty of other options for summer movies. Whether you’re in the mood for something animated, live-action, or a combination of the two, the platform has something for everyone.

Maybe you’re looking for something to watch while you’re on vacation or maybe you’re looking for something to watch during a long road trip. No matter what you’re looking for, there’s always something on Disney+ you can stream and be able to put a smile on your face.

For the most part, this list of 10 movies is a combination of live-action and animated. It’s also almost completely free of sequels, but we’ll be talking about the only sequel at the very beginning so if you haven’t watched the first movie in the series or don’t want to, you won’t have to.

Two live-action films to start off your Disney+ summer movies watchlist

No list about summer movies on Disney+ would be complete without High School Musical 2. This is the second film in the High School Musical series and the movie just screams summer. Rather than being set at school, the HSM crew is headed to the resort. Whether it’s to get a job or have fun in the sun, each member is looking for a way to improve their summer.

Of course, the highlight of High School Musical 2 is the songs especially “What Time Is It” which is an essential summer song. Then there’s the “Gotta Go My Own Way” which is such an iconic breakup song. No matter what you’re in the mood for, you can’t go wrong if you’re looking for some summer fun with High School Musical.

As for the other live-action film, National Treasure is perfect for multiple reasons. Not only does Nicolas Cage give such a stunning performance but it’s about stealing the Declaration of Independence which is perfect for the 4th of July. Coupled with action and adventure, it’s enough to entice even non-Disney lovers.

Summer is all about having adventures and what better adventure than going on a treasure hunt? Even if you can’t find any treasure in your backyard or beyond, you can fall into all the fun and excitement in National Treasure to fill the void.
